PTA Incorporation

Incorporation is a means to safeguard you and your local unit members from potential liability.  In the event your incorporated local unit is sued, barring willful or wanton conduct, only your PTA as an entity, would be subject to lawsuits and/or damages.  Liability would be limited to the assets of your nonprofit corporation.  Your personal assets and/or the personal assets of your fellow officers and members would not be at risk.  This is not true for unincorporated associations.

Illinois PTA and IPPC encourages all local units to incorporate and maintain their corporation's good standing by filing annual reports with the Secretary of State.  Forms and payments are due prior to the first day of your corporation's anniversary month.  Failure to file could lead to involuntary dissolution.

Check and maintain your incorporation status:

Environmental Concerns

Environmental stewardship can be fiscally-responsible.  Collaboration is key.  Students, parents, teachers, custodians and administrators -- all play an important role to affect change.  Get ideas and seek recognition for your environmental efforts!

Post-Secondary Education

The earlier you start planning and saving, the better prepared you and your child will be for life after graduation from high school!  Learn about financial planning, assistance programs, and career counseling services.

Social - Emotional Learning

Research clearly indicates social and emotional development is an essential foundation of cognitive development and directly related to students' academic achievement.  Social and emotional learning is a process by which children learn to recognize and manage their emotions, demonstrate concern for others, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle life's challenges constructively. Legislators, educators and caregivers must take deliberate steps to promote social - emotional learning.

Health

Children's Health and Academic Success

Parents and educators can create school environments which are more conducive to children's health and learning.

Media's Impact on Child & Adolescent Health

Greater media exposure leads to lower academic achievement and long-term, negative health effects in children and adolescents.  Parents can place limits on exposure and facilitate age-appropriate choices while educators and policymakers encourage media literacy.

"Protect the Ones You Love" Initiative

Parents play a life-saving role in protecting children from injuries.  This CDC initiative hopes to raise parent awareness about the five leading causes of unintentional injury in children, ages 0-19yr, and how they can be prevented.  Access free resources to prevent burns, falls, drownings, poisonings and road traffic injuries.
