College Board Announces
AP Scholars
=======================

In District 204, 1,522 students took a total of 3,051 Advanced Placement (AP) tests in May of 2009, with 83 percent of those tests resulting in a score of 3 or above (on a 5-point scale), providing students with the equivalent of college credit while in high school. Many students took multiple AP tests.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams.

About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP exams last spring performed at a sufficiently high level to earn an AP Scholar Award by completing 3 or more exams and earning grades of 3 or higher. Thirty-nine percent of Neuqua Valley students and 31 percent of Waubonsie Valley students earned a grade of 3 or higher on at least one AP test last year.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students' performance on high school AP exams:

AP SCHOLAR WITH HONOR – 110 District 204 students were recognized with this award by earning an average of 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more of these exams

AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION – 188 District 204 students qualified for this award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams

NATIONAL AP SCHOLAR – 41 District 204 students were so honored by earning an average grade of 4 or higher (on a 5-point scale) on ALL exams taken AND grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of those exams.

National AP Scholars from Neuqua Valley High School included: Brian Afeltra, Brian Banta, Siyue Chen, Ian Dimayuga, Tanay Ganga, Kevin Gao, Caitlin Glimco, Josiah Han, Heather Herzog, Thomas Hirschfeld, Katherine Li, Winshen Liu, Matthew Lutrick, John Majors, Scott Nelson, Christopher Nye, Alex Onsager, Bhavani Pokala, Iman Rahim, Michael Rooney, Kareem Saleh, Matthew Seeberg, Rohit Subramanian, Todd Tabor, Cassandra Thomson, Nivedita Umasankar and Patrick Welch.
