Lunch/Breakfast Program Overview
Indian Prairie School District 204 participates in the USDA National School Lunch and Breakfast Program (NSLP). The District contracts with Chartwells to implement the lunch program under USDA guidelines. The District utilizes a point of sale system for collecting and tracking breakfast and lunch monies which go directly into the student accounts. The net proceeds from the lunch and breakfast sales are reinvested directly back into the lunch and breakfast program per the USDA National School Lunch and Breakfast Program Guidelines (NSLP).
Families will only be allowed to bring in food for their student(s) and NOT other fellow students during school hours, including meal times. It is the District’s effort, foremost, to ensure the safety of students. There is a chain of custody for food offered to students by Chartwells. They are guided by health and safety guidelines in preparing and serving food to students. Additionally, we look to avoid any practice that may be disruptive to the process in place at schools.
Under the current program, NSLP, a meal consists of a choice of entrée and up to four sides, contrary to prior years when only a la carte menu items were offered at the secondary level. On behalf of the District, Chartwells serves all meals based on the USDA Healthier Choice Guidelines. The NSLP is a meal based program with prices as follows:
Lunch/Breakfast Meal prices (full-pay):
- Elementary: $2.35 per meal*
- Middle: $2.40 per meal*
- High: $2.40 per meal*
(*Meal = choice of entrée and up to four sides) - Breakfast: $1.60 (all grades where breakfast is served)
A la Carte Prices (all students):
- Milk** = $.40 -- white (when purchased separately from meals)
$.50 -- flavored (when purchased separately from meals) - Other items (besides milk) = prices vary
WHAT IS A MEAL?
The $2.35/elementary or $2.40/secondary meal that is available to all students includes:
- Minimum number of items that constitute a meal = 1-entrée plus one side, such as a milk/juice/ or any side offered.
- Maximum number of items that constitute a meal = 1-entrée plus 4 different sides (sides cannot be duplicated such as 2-apples). Each side must be different.
- Milk taken separately is considered a la carte for all students
- A second reimbursable meal is 100% chargeable to all free/reduced students. They are only entitled to one free/reduced price reimbursable meal.
- Single items are considered a la carte and do not qualify as a meal for free/reduced. The student’s account will be charged for all a la carte items.
MyPaymentsPlus

Payments can be made on a student’s lunch account by sending cash or check (payable: IPSD 204) to the school office, or on-line at www.mypaymentsplus.com. The District encourages all families to register at no charge on www.mypaymentsplus.com where you can sign up for automatic alerts and view your student’s lunch account. For a small processing fee payments can also be made directly on their account.
Student Account Balances
Students will be able to charge NO MORE than two lunches. Charge limits are equal to the price of their meal. Milk charge limits will be the amount equivalent to the dollar amounts listed below.
- Paid Meals – Secondary = $4.80; elementary= $4.70
- Reduced Meals - $.80
Students will only receive up to three additional consecutive Courtesy Lunches until their balance is paid at which point their lunch card will be pulled and lunch privileges denied. Parents are responsible for ensuring their child’s lunch account is up to date. The three courtesy lunches are provided by the District without charge to the student lunch account. Therefore, they are only limited to three.
Free And Reduced Meals
Under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, those eligible for free/reduced meals receive either a free meal or reduced meal of $.40/meal. Milk is included with a meal. The District is no longer on the Illinois Free Milk Program, thus any milk without a meal is charged the a la carte milk price**, regardless of their eligibility status. At this time, breakfast is not served at all schools.
In order to qualify, families must submit a Free/Reduced Priced Meals Application. The 2011-12 application is available at the link below. Families who do not have access to online information can request a paper copy of the application.
