Welcome to the District 204 Online Learning Program. Online courses help to prepare our students for a major component in the future of education. In 2000, roughly 40,000 K-12 students took online courses. By 2010, more than 4 million students were participating in some type of formal online learning. There are numerous positive aspects to online learning that have led to this unprecedented growth.
- The flexibility of online learning is one of its greatest benefits. Most courses are created so students can work at their own pace.
- Course materials are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- In an online environment student interaction is often increased. Everyone is given the same opportunity for interaction and students who are often quiet in face-to-face classes have a new avenue to communicate.
- Online classrooms naturally facilitate collaborative learning by providing areas for discussions and to share projects.
- It’s easy to get in touch with teachers online, by phone, and in-person. Students should not feel like they are “floating in cyberspace” because they have teacher support each day.
